Privacy
How Plain Thinking handles email signup, reader comments and website analytics.
Your email
We use your email address to confirm your request and send Plain Thinking. You can unsubscribe by replying to any issue.
Cloudflare processes the signup form and checks it for spam and abuse. Emails are sent through iCloud. Confirmation links expire after 48 hours.
How long we keep information
- Unused signup records are removed after seven days.
- Requests that remain unresolved are removed after 90 days.
- A record of your agreement to subscribe is kept on Grant’s computer while you’re subscribed and for up to two years afterward.
If you ask to be removed, we keep a small record of that request so we can continue to honor it.
Ads and analytics
Public pages measure U.S. page views, 30 seconds of visible-page activity and selected clicks. We honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. A source category, such as LinkedIn or Google, is kept in your browser tab for up to 30 minutes and may be attached to your signup request so we can count confirmed signups by source. Analytics reports contain counts, not email addresses. We do not store raw IP addresses, full referrer URLs or persistent visitor identifiers in analytics. Temporary event identifiers are removed after one day; aggregate counts are kept for 90 days. To opt out on this browser, enable Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. The pages used to confirm your subscription do not run ads or visitor analytics.
Reader comments
Comments do not require an account or email address. A name is optional. We store the issue, your submitted text and optional name, submission time, and review status. Comments and supplied names become public only after editorial approval. Do not submit confidential case information.
Comments are processed by our existing Cloudflare website service. We use short-lived hashed network counters to limit abuse, without storing raw IP addresses in comment records. Pending and hidden comments are removed after 30 days; approved comments remain public until hidden. To request a correction or removal, contact Grant.
